Olympic Mascots Wenlock & Mandeville Revealed

The new London 2012 Olympic Mascots have ben revealed for the first time a few minutes ago. The figures designed by Iris Advertising are based on figures created from the to last drops of steel from the last girder for the Olympic stadium and have a backstory that will thrill children all over the globe with the hope that the mascots will not only make money for the London Games but will also inspire kids to take up sport.

Bolt Trounces Gay in World Final

Usain Bolt, the Jamaican Olympic champion trounced his main competition Tyson Gay in the final of the World Athletics tournament in Berlin last night in a world record time of 9.58 seconds. Usain Bolt, who broke his own world record last night crossed the line 2 meters of Gay who set a new all American record time of 9.71.

It was a thrilling final in which 1st and 3rd place went to the Jamaicans, with Asafa Powell finally performing in a major championship. Bolt now runs in the 200m starting heatings this evening in Berlin Germany.

Alan Shearer To Manage Newcastle

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has agreed to take control of Newcastle United football club for the remaining eight games of the season. The team are currently sitting third from the bottom of the Premier League table and Alan Shearer is chalked in to handle the remaining games in the season in a bid to keep the club in the Premiership.

Alan Shearer is Newcastle United’s, all time highest scorer and his is loved by the fans of the club. Although he has no management experience, it is hoped that he will be able to command the respect of the players and keep the football team in the top flight for another season

Ronaldo Wins FIFA Player of the Year

Manchester United winger Christiano Ronaldo has been crowned FIFA World Player of the Year in this year’s awards show. Christano Ronaldo fought off competition from Fernando Torres, Lionel Messa and last year’s winner Kaka to win the coverted title and is the first UK based player to win the FIFA World Player of the Year award.

Lewis Hamilton Loses Belgian Title To Massa

In Formula 1 news today, driver Lewis Hamilton won the Belgian Grand Prix, only to have the 2008 title stripped from him after a stewards enquiry resulted in a 25 second penalty being awarded to the British driver for an alleged infraction sometime earlier in the race. The penalty meant that the title was awarded to Ferrari’s Felipe Massa whilst Lewis Hamilton was demoted to a third place finish.

Lightning Strikes Twice As Bolt Claims 200m Record

Proof that lightning can indeed strike twice in the same place Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt claimed the olympic 200 m title and broke Michael Johnson’s 12 year old record by .02 seconds to record a time of 19.3 seconds as he left the rest of the field far behind him once again.

As expected no-one could catch him, and the other 8 competitors in the race were left fighting over silver and bronze as Usain Bolt fought his way to the line with only the clock to beat.

Contrary to the 100m final where Usain Bolt coasted over the line show-boating and posing for pictures, in this race we saw a man determined to clock the fastest time that he could. His sole aim in this race was to beat Micheal Johnson’s world record time which stood at 19.32 seconds.

Churandy Martina of the Dutch Antilles finished second to claim silver, and whilst American Wallace Spearmon finished third, he was disqualified for touching the line at the top of the bend. His disappointment was palpable. The bronze was thus award to fourth place finisher Shawn Crawford, also of the USA.

This has been an outstanding Olympic games for Jamaicans, in the following race Melaine Walker set a new Olympic record for the womens 400m Hurdles in a time of 52.64sec to claim gold, pushing the island nation of Jamaica to 13th in the overall medals table with 4 golds.

Nadal Claims No. 1 Spot From Federer

After a record 160 weeks as the world’s no. 2 Rafael Nadal has at last claimed the number one spot from Roger Federer. The 2008 Olympic champion won Gold yesterday in the Beijing Olympics, beating his opponent Chilean Fernando Gonzalez in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (2) and 6-3. Five grand slam singles titles including the French open for the fourth consecutive year and Wimbledon this year, signalled that Rafael Nadal was indeed tired of being the man in waiting and took the number one spot today after victory in his Olympic final.

Bolt of Lightning Hits Mens Olympic 100m Final

Usain Bolt claimed the mens 100 meters Olympic gold medal in Beijing a couple of minutes ago and delivers a new world record to boot. Jamaican track star Usain Bolt streaked ahead his competition leaving them far behind him to finish the Olympic 100 meter final in emphatic fashion is just 9.69 seconds. It is Jamaica’s first gold medal in this event.

The race billed to be potentially the fastest 100 meters featured Usain Bolt as red hot favorite with fellow Jamaican former world record holder Asafa Powell expecting to get silver in the much vaunted race. As it turned out Bolt crossed the line looking like he had much more to spare, he shut down ten meters from the line seeing he was a clear meter and a half ahead and in fact started his celebrations before he had even crossed the line. Asafa Powell meanwhile finished in fifth place.

The race was a foregone conclusion but was none the less a spectacle to behold. BBC commentator Colin Jackson, himself an Olympic medalist said “he is such an elegant runner”, and four time Olympic champion Micheal Johnson said “there is no one to touch him”.

Trinidad’s Richard Thompson took the silver medal in 9.89sec and American Walter Dix the bronze in 9.91sec.

Portsmouth Vs Manchester United 2008 Community Shield

FA Cup champions Portsmouth face Barclays Premier League Champions Manachester United tomorrow in the 2008/9 season opener the Community Shield. The FA Community Shield is played between FA cup and league champions each year and is seen as the opening fixture signaling the beginning of the UK domestic football season.

Portsmouth captain Sol Campbell is confident his team will perform well against last year’s league and Champions League winners under Sir Alex Ferguson Manchester United. Indicating that his team have been performing well in the pre-season, Sol Campbell said “The Community Shield will be ideal preparation for the new season.”.

Football fans the whole world over will be looking forward to seeing Portsmouth take on what is arguably the best football team in the world in Manchester United, especially in light of this summer’s wrangling over whether hot shot mid-fielder Christiano Ronaldo is to stay at the club or go to Spanish footballing giants Real Madrid.
